'Grand Budapest Hotel' breaks box office debut record

News
The Grand Budapest Hotel, the latest film from director Wes Anderson, has broken the record to achieve the highest-grossing limited live action debut of all time.

The comedy stars Ralph Fiennes, Wilhem Defoe, Adrien Brody and Tilda Swinton and has overtaken the record previously set by Paul Thomas Anderson drama The Master, starring Joaquin Phoenix and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The Grand Budapest Hotel opened at four cinemas in New York and Los Angeles on 7th March, and averaged more than Ł120,000 per cinema, making it Anderson's most successful opening to date.

Studio Fox Searchlight will expand the film from 65 to 75 cinemas in the US this week.
