We kickstarted our Hall of Fame specials back in September with two hours dedicated to the mighty Guillermo del Toro, and we at the TDF Film Podcast feel it’s time to open up the locks again and allow Joel & Ethan Coen to sneak in through the back door! Yes, we’re going to take a detailed and celebratory look at probably the finest filmmaking duo in cinema today: The Coen Bros, but because our pods are a little bit shorter these days we’re going to split their near-thirty-year career across two one-hour episodes.

First up are the early years, starting with their gritty hard-boiled debut Blood Simple and ending in another hard-boiled tale (although one considerably less gritty!) with The Big Lebowski. We think the Coens are responsible for some of the most iconic crime & comedy films of this generation, and we’re drawing a line in the sand to tell you why! So tune in and make sure you come back next week for our coverage of O Brother, Where Art Thou? up until the recent Inside Llweyn Davis.

Episode 25 contributors: John White (host), Mike Sutton, Gary Couzens, and Matt Shingleton

The period of the Coens’s career we’re focussing on encompasses the following titles:

Blood Simple

Raising Arizona

Miller’s Crossing

Barton Fink

The Hudsucker Proxy

Fargo

The Big Lebowski

As always we hope you'll get in touch with us in the comments section if you feel like chiming in on the subject at hand!
