Oscars 2014: 12 Years a Slave, Gravity sweep awards

Sci-fi drama Gravity won the lion's share of the prizes at the 2014 Academy Awards, whilst Steve McQueen's slavery epic 12 Years a Slave won Best Picture.

Gravity won six technical awards, as well as Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron, making him the most Latin American director to win the directorial prize.

Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, favourites for their respective category, won the awards for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for drama Dallas Buyers Club.

Cate Blanchett was awarded Best Actress for her role in Woody Allen film Blue Jasmine while newcomer Lupita Nyong'o won Best Supporting Actress for her performance as the abused slave Patsey in 12 Years a Slave.

John Ridley won Best Adapted Screenplay for the 12 Years a Slave, whilst Spike Jonze scooped the prize for her futuristic romance drama Her.

Disney's Frozen won Best Animated Feature, as well as Best Original Song for 'Let It Go'.
