Harold Ramis passes away at 69

Actor and director Harold Ramis, famous for his role as Egon Spengler in 1984 comedy Ghostbusters, passed away today at the age of 69.

Ramis, who also co-wrote Ghostbusters with co-star Dan Akroyd, died due to complications arising from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis. He contracted the vasculitis illness after an infection in 2010, resulting in him unable to walk. He suffered a relapse of the disease in 2011.

Aside from his comedic acting roles in Stripes, As Good As It Gets and Knocked Up, Ramis also co-wrote frat comedy National Lampoon's Animal House as well as wrote and directed classic comedies Caddyshack and Groundhog Day.

He is survived by his wife and three children. He will be sorely missed.
