Boyle and Beaufoy to reunite for Billie Jean King biopic?

News
Trainspotting director Danny Boyle is rumoured to reunite with Slumdog Millionaire screenwriter Simon Beaufoy for a new feature, focussing on a biopic of tennis player Billie Jean King.

The new film is likely to revolve around the legendary "Battle of the Sexes" match against Bobby Riggs in 1973 and will also bring in Christian Colson as producer, who had worked on Beaufoy and Boyle in 127 Hours and Slumdog Millionaire.

The King-Riggs "Battle of the Sexes" match came about after Riggs, fresh from his victory against Margaret Court, began taunting all female players. King eventually accepted his challenge and dominated him on the court, resulting in a controversial victory as commentators noted the 26 year age difference may have attributed to King's favour, as she was the younger player at 29 years old (Riggs was 55 years old).

It seems that Boyle became interested in the project after attending a documentary on King last summer, but with the much-anticipated follow-up to Trainspotting, TV cop comedy Babylon and an adaptation of heist documentary Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers on the cards, it may take a while before Billie Jean King: The Movie hits our screens.
