Dame Helen Mirren, Academy and BAFTA award winner, will be celebrated at this year’s BAFTA ceremony as she is named the 2014 recipient of the Academy Fellowship, BAFTA’s highest accolade.

This is the greatest professional honour I can imagine, certainly one I never dreamt of as a schoolgirl in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. To join that list of legendary names is overwhelming,” she says upon hearing the news.

Mirren began acting in the late 1960’s and has become a household name in film and TV, winning numerous awards for her roles, notably The Queen and police detective Jane Tennyson in ITV series Prime Suspect. The award, whose past winners include Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock and Elizabeth Taylor, will be presented to Dame Mirren on Sunday 16th February.
