Cinema News
Come Christmas 2015, JJ Abrams will be going up against well, JJ Abrams, as Mission: Impossible 5 has been given a release date of December 25th. The Christopher McQuarrie directed instalment of the super spy franchise will be coming out one week after Star Wars: Episode VII which is released on December 18th. Abrams features as a producer on the Mission: Impossible franchise, while he will also be directing the next film in the Star Wars saga.

Chris Pratt is apparently in line to take a starring role in the next Jurassic Park movie, Jurassic World. His role is currently unknown, but it could be the same role that Josh Brolin was also linked with just the other week. Pratt has recently finished shooting Guardians Of The Galaxy for Marvel Studios, but his commitment to TV show Parks & Recreation is currently believed to be a stumbling block to him signing on the dotted line. Whilst the Independence Day sequel is by no means in development hell just yet, it is taking its sweet time in getting released. Originally due to be released on July 3rd 2015, the film will now open a full year later on July 1st 2016. Original director Roland Emmerich is still attached, while the pursuit of star Will Smith, is still ongoing. Variety

Director Guillermo Del Toro has given an update on his plans for DC's Justice League Dark movie. The film would bring together such anti heroes as John Constantine, Swamp Thing & Deadman among others.

"We're still on it, writing, and hopefully it will happen but there are no developments that are new. It’s still at Warner Bros., they are making plans for the entire DC universe.

All the superheroes, all the mythologies, and part of that is Justice League Dark. They're planning on TV, movies, and all the media, so we have to fit into that plan." CineFilos

Jason Statham is due to take the lead role in the sequel to Layer Cake, which is titled Viva La Madness. The film is based upon the book of the same name and Statham will take the role vacated by Daniel Craig. Statham has acquired the rights to the book, and will also be producing the movie.

"After surviving his gunshot wound, the man is now looking to retire to a beach. Instead he becomes involved with trans-Atlantic drug deals, money laundering, high-tech electronic fraud, London lowlifes and Venezuelan drug cartels." Deadline

Director and geek extraordinaire Kevin Smith has reportedly seen the new Batsuit which will be featured in Batman Vs Superman. Smith has not just seen the suit mind, but actually seen Ben Affleck in the suit. Speaking on his regular podcast, he spoke further about what he had seen prior to the Man Of Steel fan event which was held this past weekend to celebrate the release of the film on blu-ray & DVD.

"I saw the costume, more than that, I saw him (Ben Affleck) in the costume. I don't want to give anything away, but I am going to say this... I instantly bear hugged (Snyder).

You have not seen this costume in film before. Because every other movie has done this Matrixy black armor thing. There wasn't a single nipple on this suit.

I think everyone is gonna be like 'Holy Sh*t!' We haven't been down this path before. Even the hardest core 'f*ck this movie' person will be like 'alright, I'm ready!"Smodcast

I'll admit I know little about the upcoming biblical epic Noah, but having now seen the trailer, it definitely has my interest. Starring Russell Crowe & directed by Darren Aronofsky "The Biblical Noah suffers visions of an apocalyptic deluge and takes measures to protect his family from the coming flood." The film is due for release in the UK on March 28th 2014.

One of the more bizarre announcements this week regarded a proposed sequel to the 1946 Christmas classic, It's A Wonderful Life. Many thought it was some cruel joke, myself included, others bemoaned Hollywood and their lack of ideas, but no one could really believe that such a thing might soon exist. Luckily the sensible people at Paramount Pictures have moved swiftly to block the film as they have the rights, and have no intention of making the film. Star Partners and Hummingbird Productions stated their intentions to make the sequel, however the news was soon shot down by a Paramount spokeswoman.

"No project relating to 'It’s A Wonderful Life' can proceed without a license from Paramount. To date, these individuals have not obtained any of the necessary rights, and we would take all appropriate steps to protect those rights." New York Daily News

A Sandman movie may be finally on the way at Warner Bros. with David Goyer pitching an idea to the studio, which apparently includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the lead role of Morpheus (no not the black dude from The Matrix). The film is based upon the DC/Vertigo comic of the same name and has been pitched to Hollywood types many times over the last few years, however Warner Bros. are allegedly very happy with Goyer's ideas. The upcoming X-Men sequel, Days Of Future Past is due for some reshoots before the end of the year. Hans Fraikin, the Quebec film commissioner, confirmed that several members of cast and crew will be back to film a few more extra scenes for next years massive mutant crossover. In related news, it has been confirmed that the film is the second most expensive movie that Fox have ever made, and comes second only after Avatar. The Calgary Herald

After being heavily linked with the role of Nightwing in the upcoming Batman Vs Superman movie, Adam Driver has moved quickly to silence any rumours. When asked by Collider about the role he gave the following quote; "No. Not that I know of, no. If you find out, let me know, then I'll know."

He also went on to say; "It's intensely flattering as you can imagine. I mean, it's Batman and Superman, who doesn't want to be involved in something not only of that scale but of who those characters are. That's an incredible world to be able to be in for a bit. Like who wouldn't want to do that?" Collider

Javier Bardem is being sought after for the role of Captain Blackbeard in the upcoming reboot of Peter Pan over at Warner Bros. "Pan" will again tell the tale of a young orphan, taken to the mystical world of Neverland and who would rebel against the pirates who seek to enslave the natives. No other details are yet known at this time, but expect the announcements to start rolling in if & when Bardem is officially confirmed. Deadline

The new Need For Speed trailer rolled out this week, and I have to say, this is actually looking quite good. The film stars Aaron Paul and a scene stealing Michael Keaton and is helmed by Act Of Valor director Scott Waugh. The IMDb has this synopsis for us; "Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins."

Director Bryan Singer took to Twitter to make an early tease for the summer of 2016 by simply declaring that 2016 will be the summer of Apocalypse. For those who are unaware, we are likely to see an adaptation of the X-Men storyline Age Of Apocalypse. The film will likely spin-off from next years Days Of Future Past film which involves Wolverine going back in time to stop something terrible from happening in the future. Twitter

The first teaser trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is now online, and despite my feelings towards the first film, I will admit that next years sequel does look interesting and features some real money shots in the trailer. Check it out below.
