Universal Pictures have announced the UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of The Thing on 26th March 2012. This prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 film of the same name stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as paleontologist Kate Lloyd who, along with the crew’s pilot Carter (Joel Edgerton), discovers a mysterious organism buried in the ice. When a simple experiment frees the creature from its frozen prison, it unleashes a flood of chaos and paranoia upon the camp, pitting the team against one another.

There will also be a double-pack containing the 2011 film and the John Carpenter original. At current pre-order prices it's a much better deal than buying the 2011 film separately - The Thing Blu-ray Double Pack.

This will be a painful purchase, I know its going to be average (at best) and despise re-makes/re-imaginings or in this case prequels. But upgrading my original from DVD to Blu and pretending this is a bonus feature might lessen the blow...

It's not awesome but it's a decent enough attempt, and it leads in perfectly to Carpenter's movie. They make a great little double bill.

A quick search on the net reveals its £20.99 for the double pack. Pay no attention to the links in the sidebar. None of here ones I clicked were accurate.
