The Digital Fix DVDs and Blu-rays of 2011

Ten Digital Fix contributors. Ten lists. A lot of great discs. But surprisingly little crossover. A small handful of titles makes a couple of appearances and just one release finds itself nearing a consensus decision, namely the BFI Flipside release of Jerzy Skolimowski’s Deep End, which earns a place on four of the entries below. In part this is owing to the diverse tastes of the Digital Fix writing staff - there are individual passions for everything from anime and opera to the cult and the classic - but also to the continuing good health of the DVD and Blu-ray market both here and abroad. The fact that our separate tastes have been satisfied so fully during 2011, despite ongoing speculation surrounding the death of physical media, is surely a wonderful thing. Here’s hoping 2012 does much the same…
