O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2-Disc Special Edition)

Raphael Pour-Hashemi has reviewed the Region 2 release of O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2-Disc Special Edition). Momentum have rereleased the disc incorporating the missing R1 extras, but is it worth a repurchase?

Cats and Dogs

Andy Hall has reviewed the Region 1 release of Cats and Dogs. A much funnier comedy than I was expecting, and the disc is decent on features - though only if you have a DVD-ROM drive.

Chocolat

Raphael Pour-Hashemi has reviewed the Region 2 release of Chocolat. An under-rated piece of charming sentiment from Miramax studios with an all star cast and a good DVD package.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider

Andy Hall has reviewed the Region 1 release of Lara Croft Tomb Raider. Against the majority of popular opinion I quite liked this action set-piece movie, and the disc is pretty substantial.

Election

Newcomer, Daniel Stephens, has reviewed the Region 2 release of the Reese Witherspoon comedy, Electi...

When We Were Kings

Raphael Pour-Hashemi has reviewed the Region 2 release of When We Were Kings. The Oscar winning and one-sided documentary chronicling the immense showdown between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in Zaire, 1974 that was tagged 'Rumble In The Jungle'.

Encounters of the Spooky Kind

Dave Foster has reviewed the Region 2/4 release of Encounters of the Spooky Kind. Here is the second review in my Sammo Hung Hong Kong Legends double bill. Encounters of the Spooky Kind is a superb traditional style Martial Arts Action movie that mixes in some Evil Dead style horror and comedy to create something that is quite unique (or at least it was until the many imitations arrived) in the world of Martial Arts cinema.

Iron Fisted Monk

Dave Foster has reviewed the Region 2/4 release of Iron Fisted Monk. Better late than never here is the first in a Sammo Hung Hong Kong Legends double bill. Mixing a standard tale of revenge with some stunning displays of traditional style martial arts Iron Fisted Monk also marks Sammo Hung's directorial debut and a fine one it is at that.

Withnail and I

Colin Polonowski has reviewed the Region 2 release of Withnail and I. Bruce Robinson's autobiographical film is one of the funniest of the 1980's and Anchor Bay's disc beats even the mighty Criterion thanks to the inclusion of a commentary.

BBC Great Comedy Moments

Mike Sutton has reviewed the Region 2 release of BBC Great Comedy Moments. A diverting lucky dip but...

The Misfits

Mike Sutton has reviewed the Region 2 release of Marilyn Monroe's last filmThe Misfits. An underrated film with a fantastic final turn from Clark Gable gets an entirely average DVD from the underachieving MGM.

Blackadder Goes Forth

Andy Hall has reviewed the Region 2 release of Blackadder Goes Forth. As one of the great British comedies it is of course highly recommended, but you will be much better off with the region 1 version.

American Beauty

Raphael Pour-Hashemi has reviewed the Region 2 release of American Beauty. The classic modern day slice of middle class American suburbia, brilliantly made and with some fine extras.

House (Special Edition)

The Ruling Class (Criterion Collection)

Alexander Larman has reviewed the Region 0 release of The Ruling Class. His mark of 0/10 for the film is not a criticism of the film, but an indication of its utterly bizarre nature; read on to see why

Powaqqatsi

Noel Megahey has reviewed the Region 2 release of Powaqqatsi. The 1987 sequel to the ground-breaking film Koyaanisqatsi gets a DVD release in Germany.

Clarkson's Top 100 Cars

Andy Hall has reviewed the Region 2 release of Clarkson's Top 100 Cars. This year VCI have bothered to release JC's annual motorfest vid on DVD - entertaining for his fans, but devoid of any extras whatsoever.

Pet Shop Boys: Montage

Noel Megahey has reviewed the Region 0 release of Pet Shop Boys: Montage. A live concert DVD recorded on the 1999/2000 Nightlife tour. ‘Was It Worth It?’ or were the Pet Shop Boys just ‘Being Boring’?

Devil In A Blue Dress

Raphael Pour-Hashemi has reviewed the Region 2 release of Devil In A Blue Dress. An entertaining and diverting all-black film noir that works and is directed well by Carl Franklin.

Natural Born Killers - Director's Cut

Raphael Pour-Hashemi thought it was about time he reviewed the Region 4 release of Natural Born Killers - Director's Cut. Out of the R4 version, R1 director's cut version, the R1 R-rated version and the new R2 version, the R4 is certainly the best version to go for.

The Terminator - Special Edition

Raphael Pour-Hashemi has reviewed the Region 2 release of The Terminator - Special Edition. One of the classic eighties science-fiction films and infinitely better than the mainstream sequel. The Terminator SE boasts some impressive extras, but some are still missing from the released-later R1 version.
